Blue Mountain’s Secret Season: Orchards in Bloom & Vineyard Awakening

Blue Mountain’s Secret Season: Orchards in Bloom & Vineyard Awakening

There is a quiet, breathtaking window in the Blue Mountains that most travelers miss. Between the final tracks of the ski season and the first beach days at Wasaga, the region undergoes a transformation we call the Vineyard Awakening.

If you’re looking for a reason to visit Collingwood this April or May, look no further than the orchards and tasting rooms.

1. The Blossom Watch: A Beaver Valley Spectacle

As a cornerstone of the Apple Pie Trail, the Beaver Valley is home to thousands of apple and pear trees. Starting in late April and peaking in mid-May 2026, the valley floor turns into a sea of white and pink blossoms.

  • The Pro Move: Book a private charter and we’ll take you through the scenic backroads of Grey County where the scent of apple blossoms is at its peak, stopping at boutique spots like Spy Cider House and Distillery to taste the fruit of previous harvests while overlooking the future ones.

2. Exclusive Access at Collingwood Wineries

During the height of summer, tasting rooms can get crowded. In the spring, you get the "winemaker’s welcome".

  • Georgian Hills Vineyards: Spring is the perfect time to try their "Wine & Cider Flight" on the patio as they prep the vines for the 2026 growing season.

  • The Roost Wine Co.: Known for their elevated views of Georgian Bay, spring offers a clear, crisp atmosphere that makes their signature blind tasting experience even more memorable.

  • Coffin Ridge: Head out to Annan for a Saturday wood-fired pizza and a glass of "Resurrection Rose"—a fitting name for the season.

Spring Charter Checklist

  • Plan for "Patio-Ready" Layers: The sun is warm, but the breeze off Georgian Bay can still be crisp.

  • Book Early for May Long Weekend: This is when the "secret" season starts to get out.

  • Don't Forget the Cider: This region is Apple Country. Always include at least one cidery, like Grey & Gold or Thornbury Craft Co., to get the full local experience.
