With over 600 Craft breweries in Canada, the west coast provinces make up about 240 of them. British Columbia is home to over 160 breweries while Alberta comes in at about 80.
Doubling in 2014 and continuing to grow at a moderate pace through 2018 the BC Craft beer market is seeing continued growth.
Vancouver continues to be the epicenter of craft beer in BC with beer education programs at both SFU and Kwantlen. As the Vancouver breweries continue to make great beer there is amazing beer being made in other beer regions of the province.
Vancouver is split into two main brewery Districts:
Weather you are venturing out to Victoria to visit breweries such as Category 12 or Phillips, heading up island to see Red Arrow (In Duncan) or visiting the great patios of the north Island breweries you will not be disappointed.
If you are venturing to Whistler, you will not be disappointed (Unless you do not have a Designated Driver). North Vancouver (10-ish breweries), Squamish (3 Breweries), and Whistler (3 Breweries) all have what you need for a Libation road trip.
Brewery Row out in Port Moody is quite epic on a sunny day. Take the train out or a Port Moody bus tour with our team at Canadian Craft. Home to favourites like Yellowdog, Twin Sails, Moody Ales and The Parkside.
Kelowna is fast becoming a "Libation tourism" destination for the folks from Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton. With two brewery openings in 2018, the competition for best Okanagan craft beer is on!
Make sure you stop at Highway 97 and Cannery on your next visit to Penticton, it's worth the trip.
Alberta is home to about 80 breweries in 2018. Weather you are headed to Edmonton or Calgary you will not be disappointed.
With over 35 in 2018, Calgary is the epicentre of Alberta craft beer. No Calgary craft brewery tour is complete without a trip to the YYC Barley Belt!
Great beer here! Ensure you save a little time for craft beer every Friday or Saturday and head to some great Edmonton craft breweries. Visit your favourites like Endeavour Brewing, Town Square, Blind Enthusiasm, Sea Change or Analog brewing.
