Yellow Dog Brewing Co.

Yellow Dog Brewing Co. is not like many establishments of its kind; it was designed to have a homey feel that resembles a home away from home for most of its patrons/extended family members.  Most of the regulars that come through the brewery mostly consist of local residents looking to grab a beer on the way home from a busy day at work or groups of friends looking to hang out in a comfortable space.  Yellow Dog is the kind of place where all the servers know your name, just as the owners intended.

Yellow Dog Owners

Yellow Dog is entirely owned and run by Mike and Melinda Coghill in Port Moody. It was named after the founding family’s 13-year-old dog, whose portrait can be found displayed proudly on one of the walls opposite the entrance door. Yellow Dog is the first craft brewery to produce craft beer in the area, much to everyone’s delight. The brewery takes a different approach from other craft breweries, which is why it has managed to be successful with the populace.  For instance, Yellow Dog has a contained picnic section located behind the brewery.  Customers heading out back to the unique outside seating area typically have to walk through the heart of the brewery, which exposes them to the brewing processes.

The brewery enjoys an open plan design, where the tasting area is situated between the brewing tanks, the cold room, and the loading bay. The open plan allows the smell of hops to waft through the entire establishment, which only helps to make the craft brews that much more enjoyable.  The demand for Yellow Dog’s brews has been high since the brewery opened its doors. Their High Five hazy IPA that has a citrusy and floral hops aroma was an instant hit. The First Mate White IPA, Chase My Tail Pale Ale, Sit and Stay India Session Belgian Ale and the light but sufficiently able-bodied Play Dead IPA are also popular with the patrons.

Thanks to their quality craft beers, Yellow Dog is already expanding, to accommodate more people within years of being in business.  In the future, the brewery hopes to open up a bottling line to deal with the demand and to spread the word beyond the region.  Aside from managing to succeed with their customers, Yellow Dog has also been recognized for its master brew having taken top B.C craft beer awards severally.

If you are lucky enough to visit Yellow Dog in the summertime, bring some sunscreen and sit on the patio.  This newly expanded patio is everything you can love about a brewery patio.  It's relaxed, fun and filled with like minded beer drinkers.  Don't forget your sunscreen.
