Hazy IPAs

Delicious Hazy IPAs

Hoppy Flavour Without Hoppy Bitterness.  What's Not to Love?

Missing those lazy hazy crazy days of summer? Well, Hazy IPAs might be the next best thing to help get through these dark chilly winter days. Also known as a New England IPA or Milkshake IPA, hazy IPAs are known for their bright and punchy flavours with a lower than expected IBU. IBU stands for International Bitterness Units and is used to represent the bitterness level you typically get from hops. Unlike a traditional British or American IPA which is typically very bright and clear, a Hazy IPA has residual particles which give it somewhat of a cloudy appearance. Those can be attributed to a couple of things. Some of the haziness is from remaining hop debris from the dry hopping process which is when hops are added after the boil to add extra hop flavour and aroma without adding to the bitterness of the beer. Secondly, some of the haze is suspended remaining yeast particles that have not been filtered out. Because Hazy IPAs are unfiltered it is best to drink them as fresh as possible. The longer they age more and more flavour and essence from the hops are lost. Hazy IPAs are perfect for a person who likes the thought of an IPA more than actually drinking an IPA because they are typically full of big tropical and juicy hops that you traditionally find in American IPAs but without an overly bitter aftertaste. You will find a lot of variety in Hazy IPAs because there aren't the same parameters as other beer types that they need to abide by which is great for people that love creative mixtures and the unexpected!
