International Women’s Day is this Sunday! We would like to recognize the day and talk about some amazing events you can attend this Sunday to celebrate women in beer!
The Pink Boots Society (PBS) is an organization of women from various roles in the beer industry helping other women advance their careers in beer. The society has many chapters across the world with events, newsletters, and even scholarship programs. Each year the pink boots society creates an exclusive blend of hops, in partnership with Yakima Chief Hops, to be used in collaboration brew day events held on International Women’s Day. This year's blend consists of Azacca, El Dorado, Idaho Gem, and Loral which produce tropical, citrus, and pine notes. Here are some breweries that are hosting events and using the special blend of hops.
Callister Brewing is a nano-brewery in East Vancouver producing craft beer and sodas. They are hosting a Women’s Brew Day event inviting women interested and involved in brewing at all levels to come and hang out. They will be brewing a Hazy IPA and celebrating women! It is a 19+ event and starts at 10am. Admission is free but you will have to RSVP for the event as space is limited. Check out callisterbrewing.com for more information.
The ladies at Cannery Brewing in Penticton will be releasing a milkshake IPA called Ceres on Sunday, named after the roman goddess of agriculture, grain crops, fertility, and motherly relationships. The beer will be available on tap and in cans in the tap room and select BC liquor stores. If you make it down to the tasting room on Sunday you can also enjoy live music. Tomy from the Carbons will be playing form 6pm to 8pm with no cover charge.
Your community brewpub on 17th Avenue in Calgary will be hosting a charity brunch event on Sunday. The event will run from 10am until 3pm; $2 from every brunch ordered will be donated to YW Calgary, which provides programs and services to women in need.
Many other breweries have been holding special brew days to celebrate the Pink Boots Society, utilizing the special blend of hops to create what we expect to be some wonderful beverages. Keep an eye out for beers from Stanley Park Brewing, Coast Mountain Brewing, Banff Ave Brewing Company, Balzac Craft Brewing Company, Citizen Brewing Company, Cold Garden Beverage Company, Last Best Brewing and Distilling, Mill Street Brewpub, Born Colorado Brewing, Banded Peak Brewing, Wild Rose Brewery, Prairie Dog Brewing, and The Establishment Brewing to name a few. So get out there and enjoy some beer in celebration of gender equality and women in beer!
