Victoria Brewery Tour - Our Favourite Craft Breweries in Victoria BC

Victoria Brewery Tour

There are few cities in Canada with a greater "Brewery per capita ratio" than Victoria. Victoria is home to about 12 Breweries/Brewpubs.  The following are in no particular order but we will share with you the tips you can not miss.

Stops on your Victoria Brewery Tour

Category 12 Brewing

Not too far out of downtown Victoria you'll find Category 12.  We often call this the brewery for beer drinkers who love beer.  Must Try - Black IPA + Wild IPA.  This is both a fantastic tour as well as a great spot to stop for a flight.  Locally owned you can see how much hard work and determination goes into this beer/brand.

Should I stop for at Category 12 on my Victoria Brewery Tour?

Absolutely.  This is a must stop.  Call ahead and talk to Karen for reservations. One week ahead preferred.  Good luck leaving without a few

Open 12-6 Tuesday - Saturday. Address: 2200 Unit C, Keating Cross Rd

Moon Under Water Brewpub

There is 6+ Beer's here that they do them selves as well as a couple rotating guest taps from other places across BC.  You will never have a hard time finding a beer you like here.  Full menu available.

Growler fills available, off sales

Open 11-11 at least every day, 350 Bay St, Victoria, BC V8T 1P7

Vancouver Island Brewery

One of the originals on the island. This Brewery sells 80% of it's beer on the island and is one of the biggest.  You can get in and out of their tasting room quickly and probably within 30 minutes.  Great for a fast sample flight.  Recently bought by Muskoka, so you soon see their beer out east.  Stop by Saturdays for a Vancouver Island Brewery tour. Top Victoria Brewery Tour.

Vancouver Island Brewery

Phillips Brewing

With so many different beers on tap, there is something for phillipseveryone.  This is one of the biggest breweries in the province.  We have done a few blogs about Phillips beer. Check them out.  Want to try some local pop?  Take one home with you.  Flights are by donation here.

Open Daily until 6 or 7pm.  Growler fills, off sales, tasters and even tours some days.

Can I get a Victoria Brewery Tour at Phillips?

Yes you bet.  2pm Saturday and Sunday. 4pm Tuesday to Thursday. Call ahead for your Phillips Brewery Tour.

Lighthouse Brewing

Heard of Lighthouse beer? Want to try it?  This small tasting room in Esquimalt is worth it for the beer.

Canoe Brewpub (CLOSED)

With one of the nicest patio's in the city, this is a summer must stop.

Swans Brewpub

A few pretty good brews here

Overall Victoria Brewery Tour

Overall you'll love your self guided Victoria Craft Brewery Tour.  Allow about a hour per venue and no drinking and driving.  The drinking and driving laws in Victoria are pretty stiff so we would recommend doing a Victoria Brewery tour with Canadian Craft Tours.

What Are The Most Common Grape Varieties In Niagara?

by Brandon Moscrip January 26, 2023

The Niagara Region is known for its world-renowned wineries and the diverse range of grape varieties that are grown here. From classic European varieties to newer hybrids, the Niagara Peninsula offers a wide variety of wines to suit every taste. In this blog, we will take a look at some of the most common grape varieties that are grown in Niagara and what makes them special.

  1. Chardonnay: This classic white grape variety is one of the most widely planted in Niagara. Chardonnay grapes are known for producing wines that are crisp and refreshing with flavors of apple, citrus and mineral. The cool climate of the Niagara Region is particularly well-suited to growing Chardonnay, producing wines that are well-balanced with good acidity and a long finish. Fun fact: Chardonnay grapes are also known as the "queen of white grapes", due to its versatility and popularity among wineries all over the world.

  2. Riesling: Another white grape variety that is commonly grown in Niagara is Riesling. Riesling grapes are known for producing wines that are floral and fruity with a characteristic minerality. The Niagara Region's cool climate allows Riesling grapes to ripen slowly, resulting in wines with a good balance of sweetness and acidity. Fun fact: Riesling grapes are known for being very expressive of the terroir where they are grown, meaning that the wine will have a distinct taste depending on the soil and climatic conditions of the region....
