Backroads Brewing Company

Backroads Brewing Company

Backroads Brewing Company Beginnings

Backroads Brewing Company, in Nelson, BC, opened its doors on February 27, 2017, taking advantage of the booming craft beer scene in the province. Situated in the heart of Baker Street, downtown Nelson, this brewery has managed to attract a loyal following of local supporters as well as many visitors. On one of the city’s busiest streets, Backroads Brewing was founded by Brent Malysh, Founder & CEO, alongside veteran brewer, Mike Kelly, who also serves as the Brewmaster.

Situated in West Kootenay region, which has long been a popular tourist destination owing to the spectacular natural setting and popular ski resorts, Backroads Brewing hopes to transform this region into a craft beer destination.  The local population, which is crazy over craft beer, will allow the latest brewery to expand and flourish, and maybe even pave the way for more microbreweries to open in the region. The brewmaster, Mike Kelly, has years of experience that will count towards making the brewery a success. He has an eye for tradition, but his years of experience will also pave way for the creation of offerings that are both diverse and interesting.

Backroads Brewing Beers

As one of the newest breweries in the industry, Backroads has a lot to prove in terms of product quality, technique, and innovation. At the time of it's opening, only four beers were available on tap: a saison, an Irish red, a Kellerbier, and a Pale Ale. The brewery is already up to a whopping 13 beers now including a Blueberry Wheat and a Pecan Pie Porter! Pretty impressive for such a young brewery.

Backwoods Brewing Taproom

The beers are served in the taproom, which is welcoming and well designed to appear completely different from what other breweries may have done in the past; the taproom is unique and fits into what was a gap in the entertainment and dining scene in Nelson.  The offerings are available for flights, glasses, as well as growler refills.
