Indigenous Winery

Indigenous World Winery

Indigenous World Winery is the world’s first indigenous owned winery. They have been producing world class VQA wines since 2012. The Okanagan Syilx people are the indigenous first people of the Okanagan and Simalkameen Valleys and they have lived on and protected the land for thousands of years. Indigenous World Winery looks to celebrate the land and its rich history. Glacial ice, volcanic eruptions and geological events have provided rich agricultural land that they honour by ensuring not only are they developing world class products, but maintaining respect for the environment, the lands, and its people. Indigenous World is mixing modern culture with Indigenous history.

Indigenous Winery

All their grapes are harvested from the Okanagan and Simalkameen Valleys. The winery is easy to access from Highway 97, in West Kelowna, making it a great and convenient destination to visit from Kelowna, or the south Okanagan. Their Wine Shop, which is said to be located on a unique and somewhat mystical site, is open year round, 7 days a week and they offer tastings and wine by the glass. Their onsite restaurant, Red Fox Club is a great place to relax and have a meal while enjoying the warm, modern setting. They serve an indigenous inspired menu using fresh and locally sourced ingredients. The Proprietors of the estate are Robert Louie and his wife Bernice and they are the originators of the Indigenous World concept and are both descendants of the Okanagan Syilx.

Indigenous Land

They share a strong passion for nature, the land, and the rich history and traditions of the Syilx people. Robert Louie served as Chief of the Westbank First Nation until 2016. The Winemaker, Jason Parkes is an incredibly gifted winemaker. Some of his wines are world renowned and he has won hundreds of international wine awards. Indigenous World has a small group conference and event centre that can cater your events or wedding.

Events at Indigenous

The winery also hosts a variety of fun and unique events themselves, so check their website often. Indigenous World, in addition to their world class wines, have plans on expanding to include a brewery and distillery.
